Abemethy to It is common report that R. H. W. Barker, Populist nominee for Senator in this district, will vote fur Pritchard's return to the Uni ted States Senate. Barker was formerly a Rad. How do ycu free silver Populists, who put sil ver above party, like that? In view of the tendency of Pop ulists to fuse with gold bug Rad, it might be in order to ak the Caucasian to do something now. and that quick, to cause sensible people to believe its statement that Pops are ready and anxious to put free silver above party. The Statesville Landmark of last Friday said that it couldn't "help but think once in awhile of jthe fact that Bryan was the Popu list "nominee for president, and that Hal. Aver and fifty other Pops were escorting him around the state this week. Wbave thought about that, too.. Elsewhere in. this paper will be found the official agreement, pro viding for fusion between Popu lists and Reuublicans. To show their sincerity, the Populists have left out silver as .one of the condi tions of the barvaiu. Free Silver is good enough to blow arouud rvbout when there are no offices to divide up. Every Democrat in this county should consider it his duty to cast his vote against Rhodes and Co., and see to it that he gets, at least, one other man to do likewise. Then, there will be no doubt about not onlv i:nov fre silver would bj a good thing, but they know that creenback money would be better. They are four years ahead ol the Populistic Democrats. But oveiybody knuwe if free sil- er is to succeed and the Populist party is to succeed, some mission ary crk uiut be done. The Pop ulists are not s-tron enough to carrv the country alone. But what would you think of a preacher, who should bgldly announce that it was no longer necesary tc ?eud out Bibles? Is tne nlove to Ik: taken as additional evidence that Populists do not belie. e in free silver? Aie filch statements cal culated to inspire confidence in that direction? RtP-POP FUSION.
